ABOUT THE ROLE
St. Joseph’s Care Group provides rehabilitative services through a partnership with Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, delivering care across diverse acute care settings. Reporting to the Manager – Rehabilitative Services at TBHRSC, the speech-language pathologist (SLP) will provide specialist assessment, treatment, and consultation to in-patients admitted to medical, surgical, stroke, mental health, emergency, and ICU units, focusing on a variety of swallowing and communication-related disorders. The SLP will provide counselling and education to patients, family members, caregivers and other service providers related to swallowing and communication disorders and their management.
The 0.2 FTE assignment to outpatient services through the TBRHSC Cancer Centre is an exciting opportunity to work with patients who have a diagnosis of Head and Neck Cancer and are receiving treatment through the TBHRSC Cancer Centre. This includes radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and surgery. The SLP will provide assessment, treatment and consultation for swallowing and communication impairments that arise related to their Head and Neck Cancer diagnosis and treatment. This includes alaryngeal communication.
The SLP will have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including, nursing professionals, Registered Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Medical Radiation Technologists, Radiation and Medical Oncologists and Otolaryngologists.
Position is for 0.5 FTE TBRHSC Inpatient Rehabilitation and 0.2 FTE Outpatient TBRHSC Cancer Centre.
